Acrostic Poetry Book

This afternoon, I finished the eighth poem for a book of acrostics that I have been working on this year. These poems appear weekly in editions of the Pioneer Tribune with the solutions revealed each following week.

Although I have been writing these poems for many years, they are not easy to compose. In order to assure that the hidden answers can be spelled out in columns either horizontally or diagonally, each line can take from fifteen to thirty minutes to arrange and complete.

Through their vocabulary and themes, I usually try to make them both baffling and instructive. The current series of poems, which have been published during the month of February, utilize Chippewa words and phrases.

On the completion or sometime during the composition of this book, I also would like to begin to have appropriate illustrations rendered by an artist to go along with each poem.

Sidetrack's Famous Piano Aquarium

Snow is descending outside, and the wind is howling like a wolf. A large crowd of familes and couples have braved these elements to gather together at Sidetracks (1080 S. County Road 442, Cooks, Michigan) on this deep freeze of an evening in the Upper Peninsula in search of warmth, conversation and excellent food.

The white fish special ($13.95) is moist and tender with a golden brown batter. The salad bar is extremely clean and well stocked.

One of the unique attractions at Sidetracks is its famous piano. Originally destined for disposal due to the deteriorated condition of its strings and keys, it was salvaged 15 years ago by the addition of a marvelous aquarium.
